The mission of the National Federation of Humane Societies is to develop and utilize a unified voice of advocacy for the animal care and control community.
Vision
We envision a federation of humane organizations created by and for its members. Through cooperation and collaboration, NFHS will have greater clout in the advocacy arena than individual organizations would have on their own. NFHS will strive to identify and share best practices and research; promote an animal-friendly agenda to public policy bodies; and foster support for the welfare of animals in corporate policies and practices.
Examples of Potential Activities
Finding consensus on issues pertinent to members such as pets in housing, puppy mills, novelty pets/exotics, and animal fighting.
Promoting animal-friendly practices, policies, and procedures within corporations and recognizing companies that have favorable positions on animal welfare issues and that promote animal-friendly practices.
Collaborating with other animal welfare associations such as AAHA and AVMA on matters of shared interest.
Researching issues pertinent to members (e.g., the effects of breed specific legislation).
Proposing and/or supporting legislation such as the Pets Act requiring animals to be included in disaster planning.
